Moving
I’ve finally found my camera charger! (well, actually my boyfriend found it whilst sorting out a drawer, brownie points for him)
Although, my blog will probably be quiet for a little while longer as we’re…getting ready to move house!
The next couple of weeks are going to be pretty hectic for us & I really want to share some of my recent thrift finds (as well as starting to craft again, it’s been too long!), but alas, it will just have wait for the time being.
Here’s hoping for a smooth month ahead!
Out of Action
I seem to have misplaced my camera charger somewhere & surprise…my camera has flat lined!
I’m hoping I can find it out when I start my mass house clear out this next week (I have so much on this week, party, meal, work, photography for a gig…ah).
I shall be back soon sharing my thrifty finds etc with you all soon!
Snails, snails, everywhere
I made some new friends whilst me & the boyfriend were clearing the garden…
Could help posting this next one. My homemade chicken nuggets & avocado fries (oven baked).
I was very pleased with myself at my first attempt of chicken nuggets, they tasted so good too, I think I’ll give the avocado fries a miss next time though & stick to guacamole!
Thrift Thursday
I’ve been doing rather well with my charity shop visits just a lately. Sometimes I can browse all of the shops in town (all 11, 12 if you include the one I’ve never been in because it has such weird opening times) & find nothing at all of interest, but I guess that appeals to me, the thrill of not finding something awesome every trip.
Another great place I love to explore is the car boot. Every Sunday morning in town there is a car boot. It’s literally about 2 minute walk from where I work & it starts filling up about 6am…perfect for us getting out of work at 6:30am. First stop though is the burger van, it’s ritual to have a cheeseburger & a slushie for Sunday breakfast! There can be some real rubbish at the car boot & sometimes you see things that you think “why, why on earth would you try & sell that?” but some people will do anything for a little bit of money & also it can be surprising what people will buy!
Here are just a few of my recent thrifty finds
I almost missed these & I actually saw them as I was leaving the shop. I’d been after a pair of this style of pump for a while. They’re Barratts, size 7 in purple suede. They were £4.99 & to say they are brand new & unworn they are so comfy!
These I found on the car boot at a steal for just £2. I love to go on walks with my camera (as you know, from previous posts) so I thought these would be perfect…I haven’t been on a walk yet but I’ve already wore them out twice & again, they are so darn comfy.
This is identical to the other owl I thrifted not long ago, just bigger. I’m not quite sure what it’s made out of even though it looks like wood, it’s not.
This mushroom is so unusual & quirky, it seriously caught my eye. It’s made from wood but the colourful patches have a felt like feel. It sits proudly on my bedside cabinet.
These little brown dishes are awesome, I’ve been after something like this for a while. They’re not as wide as I liked (I originally wanted them to make lasagne in, they’re a little deep, it’s a bit of a battle with a knife & fork) but they are pretty deep. They were £1.99 for the pair of them, I’ve had them for 3 days & I’ve already used them twice. I’m looking forward to making us mini casseroles, macaroni cheese, toad in the hole…you get the drift.
If you like thrifting & have some thrifty blog posts, please feel free to comment & share, I love looking through what treasure people have found.
Homemade Sugar Scrub (Review)
I love myself a little home pampering. Wednesday nights are normally my choice to do so though, why? Because my boyfriend works Wednesday nights so the house is nice & quiet!
Whilst browsing Pinterest (which I do daily, who doesn’t?) I saw a pin for the “softest, silkiest legs” & was ultimately intrigued, like most women would be.
The pin took me to:
http://glutenfreenavywife.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/softest-silkiest-legs.html
A lovely, easy & cheap sugar scrub that literally consisted of 3 household ingredients; Sugar, oil & citrus juice. Simple.
I used smaller quantities than the recipe stated, but this is because I only had olive oil to hand & it didn’t smell that fantastic (I didn’t want to make too much in case I didn’t like it). I’ve searched online & found that the big supermarket near me stocks almond oil & coconut oil, so I’m looking forward to making another batch with those, hopefully it’s going to smell luscious!
Despite the smell, it worked like an absolute charm. I didn’t just use it on my legs, I also used it on my armpits & my feet & all three are feeling fresh & so, so soft.
It just goes to show, you can spend stupid amounts of money on pampering products & treatments, but what’s the point really? When you can whip up your own for less than £2 & feel just as relaxed & gorgeous after?
(I’d also like to add, creeping up on your boyfriend whilst wearing a face mask is absolutely priceless entertainment!)
Thrift Thursday
The weather here today has been awful. It’s been extremely grey all day, albeit a little warm. Luckily though, while I was out of the house I managed to dodge the torrential downpours that occurred here & there.
The downpour that happened while I was getting ready to leave the house didn’t put me off my plans for the afternoon & I armed myself with my coat & hat (despite it being 21st June). First stop was to visit my grandparents, I didn’t get chance to visit on Father’s Day although I did call to let him know I’d be up in the week. As much as I love them, I don’t make myself too comfy there because apart from the coal fire constantly being lit & it feeling like sauna, it can get a little awkward when they start whinging at each other. Second stop was to see my Dad, who was just leaving the house when I arrived. I walked him to the pub instead so he could enjoy a pint & the paper in peace.
My final stop was to hop on the bus & head to the next village for a spot of exploring & thrifting. I was pretty pleased to discover it has not just one but two charity shops & also a craft shop that has appeared from somewhere.
I managed to find a couple of things that caught my eye & it made a change not to head into the town centre (even though the thrift market was on, but seeing as though the weather has been so wet, I imagined it would have been a poor turn out, plus I didn’t fancy getting caught in it).
My love of owls just a lately seems to have grown, so I couldn’t pass up this cutie for 30p
This little photo album is quite intriguing & for 50p it might inspire me to start taking & printing more photographs
I also bought yet another blouse (I seem to have acquired a small obsession with them) although I couldn’t get a decent photo, so I’ll post one another day.
One of my favourite things about summer is fresh cherries & peas in the pod. There is this lovely little fruit & vegetable shop called the ‘Strawberry Basket’, it really hasn’t changed much since I used to go there with my Nan when I was younger, they even have a Pic ‘n’ Mix sweet section still. Needless to say, this was the healthier option, they just didn’t last very long!
